MP Namal Rajapaksa has accused the government of using smear campaigns to tarnish the Rajapaksa family, demanding answers over the mysterious release of 323 uninspected containers from the Colombo Port.
Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna National Organizer and Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa said at a media briefing that the government has allowed a continuous stream of smear campaigns and warned that legal action will soon be taken against those responsible. He claimed that fabricated narratives from golden horses to Dubai hotels, Ugandan money, rocket stories, and now the alleged “ice container” in Middeniya are all part of a deliberate political attack.
Rajapaksa questioned whether the government has accounted for the 323 containers released without inspection in January and asked if steps were being taken to disclose what goods were imported. “It is highly doubtful whether the ice container in Middeniya was among those 323 containers that escaped from the port,” he stated.
He criticized the authorities for failing to conduct a proper investigation into the containers while instead targeting the Rajapaksas for political gain. He revealed that four people had been arrested within hours of their photographs being displayed in media briefings, raising concerns of politically motivated action.
Rajapaksa said suspicions remain strong that the chemicals found in Middeniya could be linked to the uninspected containers. He also urged the government to disclose details of land in Nuwara Eliya allegedly used for ice production.
Highlighting the government’s inability to stop rising violence and underworld shootings, Rajapaksa accused it of diverting public attention by targeting opposition leaders. “The government should focus on ending violence in the country instead of smearing the opposition,” he declared.
He challenged the government to openly reveal the truth about the release of 323 containers and the goods they contained, insisting the public deserves full transparency.
