From inherited land and gold reserves to multi-million-rupee company stakes, MP Namal Rajapaksa’s latest declaration of assets exposes the scale of his fortune, debts, and hidden dowry wealth.
Member of Parliament Namal Rajapaksa has declared a net worth of Rs. 74 million, according to his official declaration of assets and liabilities. The disclosure sheds light on a wide range of holdings including land, gold, vehicles, investments, and financial assets, while also revealing heavy debts that reduce his total net assets.
The report lists three lands under his name. One of these properties was inherited from his parents, while two were purchased outright, with one valued at Rs. 5.5 million. Alongside real estate, Rajapaksa also declared a significant cache of gold items weighing over 100 pounds. Within this collection, 31 pounds and 23 gold coins are specifically owned by him, valued at approximately Rs. 7.7 million.
Vehicles form another category of declared wealth. While he owns a purchased vehicle, two others fall into different classifications: one belongs to his wife’s father, and the value of the remaining vehicle was not provided.
Rajapaksa’s business interests are considerable, including Rs. 38 million invested in a private company and Rs. 1 million in the Litsiadis company. His professional and investment earnings include Rs. 82,000 from legal practice, Rs. 3 million as interest income, and Rs. 4.1 million from other income streams. His wife earns an additional Rs. 1.3 million annually.
The MP’s financial assets total Rs. 85 million, made up of bank balances, cash on hand amounting to Rs. 25 million, and Rs. 30 million in advances. However, his liabilities far outweigh his earnings capacity. The report lists Rs. 94 million in debts, including personal loans of Rs. 20 million and Rs. 10 million, other loans totaling over Rs. 62 million, Rs. 24 million borrowed from his wife, and Rs. 9 million in credit card debt.
Notably, Rajapaksa also received 50% shares in hotels and other businesses under the LSR Company as a dowry upon marriage. Excluding dowry holdings, his declared assets stand at Rs. 168 million, and after subtracting debts, his final net worth is Rs. 74 million.
