BBL 13 (Game 31) – Hobart Hurricanes vs Adelaide Strikers
The Adelaide Strikers put up a stellar performance against the Hobart Hurricanes, securing a convincing 5 wicket victory. The Striker’s top order batters laid waste to the Hurricanes in the second innings, aggressively chasing down a formidable total set by Hobart, courtesy of Matt Short, Darcy Short and Chris Lynn.
Adelaide having won the toss, opted to chase and given the conditions this might have proved to be a costly mistake. However, the wicket at the Adelaide Oval, well known for favoring batters, gave nothing to the Hurricanes as they struggled to hold on to wickets and soon tumbled to 36 for 5 inside the powerplay. Despite Ben McDermott’s valiant 95 not out, the Strikers’ disciplined bowling, led by Jamie Overton’s three wickets and Cameron Boyce’s support, restricted the Hurricanes to 165, setting a competitive yet challenging total.
The Adelaide Strikers were quick to pounce and commenced their innings with purpose, aggressively targeting the Powerplay. D’Arcy Short’s impactful start set the tone, while Matthew Short and Chris Lynn continued the assault. Together the trio hit the 100 run mark by just the 11th over. Aided by the Power Surge, Alex Carey and Thomas Kelly took the Strikers all the way to 160 runs, before Jamie Overton smacked a boundary to put the Hurricanes out of their misery.
The Hurricanes’ bowling struggled to contain the Strikers’ onslaught, conceding boundaries freely. Though Nathan Ellis and Chris Jordan made inroads, the Hurricanes’ attempts to regain control post-drinks were marred by the Strikers’ determined batting.
Striker Leggy Cameron Boyce snatched up the Man of the Match award for his brilliant 2 for 13 in 4 overs. His efforts helped curb the Hurricanes dominance in the first innings, leading to his sides victory and keeping the Strikers still in the mix to make the playoffs.
