Deputy Minister Sunil Watagala declares that the National People’s Power group, guided by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and senior MPs, is shaping Parliament with sincerity and strength that rivals the legacy of Lakshman Kadigamar.
Deputy Minister of Public Security Sunil Watagala has stated that the opposition is powerless against the collective strength of the National People’s Power (NPP) parliamentary group. Speaking during a discussion with a private radio station, Watagala stressed that while he stands as an individual, he is backed by a united group of 159 members. He added that the President provides proper guidance, ensuring that the party acts with purpose and coordination inside Parliament.
Watagala highlighted that the NPP allows space for opposition voices but ensures that their influence remains contained within parliamentary processes. He noted that the group works under the direction of senior MPs such as Comrade Bimal Ratnayake, who delegates responsibilities with precision, and members fulfill their duties accordingly.
Emphasizing the quality of parliamentary speeches delivered by NPP members, Watagala urged the public to recognize the sincerity and commitment displayed by his colleagues. He drew a comparison with the past, recalling figures like Lakshman Kadigamar, whose speeches were admired across political divides. According to him, the NPP is bringing back that same level of credibility and respect to parliamentary debate, establishing a new standard of political integrity.
Watagala reiterated that the opposition cannot withstand the consistency and discipline of the NPP group. He insisted that day by day, Parliament is being shaped into a forum of sincerity and substance, led by the collective will of the party and guided by strong leadership at the top.
