Veteran actor and ex-minister Ranjan Ramanayake says corruption is at a minimum and the government deserves support, not rejection.
Ranjan Ramanayake, well-known as both a veteran actor and a former minister, expressed his strong support for the current government, declaring that he has one hundred percent confidence in its leadership. Speaking to journalists, he said that he is ready to back any administration that genuinely works toward building the country, and in his view, the present government has shown progress worth recognizing.
Ramanayake argued that compared to past administrations, this government has not committed serious wrongs that would justify being thrown out of office. He stressed that although mistakes exist, they are minor in nature and cannot be labeled as criminal acts. According to him, what makes the present administration stand out is its effort to keep corruption at the lowest possible level, while also ensuring that those who engage in theft or abuse of power are held accountable.
He pointed out the importance of the State Confiscation of Crime-Related Assets Act, which has enabled the government to arrest offenders and recover large sums of money into the state treasury. This, he said, is evidence that the administration is serious about tackling corruption and recovering stolen wealth. Ramanayake contrasted this with previous governments, recalling high-profile scandals such as the Central Bank bond issue that plagued the so-called era of good governance.
Highlighting that the people are weary of corruption and broken promises, he insisted that the present leadership must be judged by its record of accountability and recovery of assets. To him, this shows a difference in political culture that deserves encouragement rather than hostility. For that reason, Ramanayake urged citizens not to demand a change of government based on minor errors but to recognize the progress being made.
