National People’s Power (NPP) MP Nilanthi Kottahachchi has strongly denied claims linking her to a photo circulating on social media, warning that legal action will follow if the picture has been manipulated.
Nilanthi Kottahachchi, representing the NPP in Parliament, clarified that the woman seen in the viral image is not her. She firmly stated that she did not attend the wedding ceremony highlighted on former Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa’s official page. According to Kottahachchi, not only was she absent from the event, but she was also never invited to it, dismissing the social media rumor as entirely false.
Addressing the controversy, she emphasized her intention to protect her integrity and political credibility. “If this is a fake photo, I will not hesitate to file a case,” she declared, underscoring her readiness to seek justice through legal means. The MP further warned that any attempt to digitally alter or edit the image in order to mislead the public will result in strict legal consequences for those responsible.
Her statement comes at a time when misinformation and digitally manipulated content are increasingly influencing public opinion, often targeting political leaders. Kottahachchi’s warning highlights the growing concern over the misuse of social media platforms to spread unverified claims and damage reputations.
As a member of the National People’s Power, she noted that such actions not only attack her personally but also undermine the principles of accountability and transparency in politics. She reiterated her commitment to challenge any false claims designed to tarnish her public image or mislead the people of Sri Lanka.
By firmly rejecting the false association with the viral photo and announcing possible legal measures, Kottahachchi has signaled that she will not allow her reputation to be compromised by digital misinformation.
