A blend of emerging talent and international experience defines the Sri Lanka A squad as they set their sights on T20 glory in Doha.
Left-arm spinner Dunith Wellalage has been appointed captain of the Sri Lanka A team for the upcoming ACC Rising Stars Asia Cup T20 2025. The tournament is scheduled to be held in Doha later this month. The squad announcement reveals a strategic mix of promising young talents and players with valuable senior team exposure, highlighting Sri Lanka’s robust player development pathway.
The team features a core of exciting prospects, including the leg-spin of Vijaykanth Viyaskanth, all-rounder Sahan Arachchige, and fast bowler Milan Rathnayake. Several members of the squad bring recent international experience to the group. Wellalage, batter Nuwanidu Fernando, and wicket-keeper Nishan Madushka have all featured in Sri Lanka’s white-ball matches this year. Rathnayake earned his Test debut against Bangladesh in June, while off-spinning all-rounder Ramesh Mendis last played in a Test against Australia in February 2025.
A significant inclusion is 20-year-old Vishen Halambage, who receives his maiden call-up to a national representative squad. Viyaskanth also continues his impressive rise in the domestic circuit, building his case despite stiff competition for spin bowling slots from established stars like Wanindu Hasaranga and Jeffrey Vandersay.
The ACC Rising Stars T20 tournament, a key platform for emerging Asian cricket talent, begins on November 14. Sri Lanka A has been placed in Group A alongside Afghanistan A, Hong Kong, and Bangladesh A. Their campaign for the T20 title starts with a crucial opening match against Afghanistan A on November 15.
