After nearly ten years, Namal Rajapaksa walks back into SLFP headquarters as opposition forces unite for a massive Nugegoda rally set to challenge the government’s credibility and expose its broken promises.
Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) National Organizer and Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa made a surprise visit to the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) headquarters on Darley Road, Colombo, today, his first in nearly a decade to discuss preparations for the upcoming opposition rally in Nugegoda on November 21.
The meeting brought together SLFP Chairman Nimal Siripala de Silva, General Secretary Duminda Dissanayake, and several senior figures from both the SLFP and SLPP to coordinate strategy for the joint rally. The event aims to send a strong message to the ruling government over what the opposition calls failed promises and deceptive governance.
Speaking after the discussions, SLFP General Secretary Duminda Dissanayake said that the rally would mark a historic moment of unity among opposition parties. “All opposition groups are now standing on the same platform for democracy,” he said. “Those who once trusted the compass have realized they were deceived, and on November 21, we will reveal that truth to the people.”
Addressing journalists outside the headquarters, Namal Rajapaksa said his visit was focused on urging the government to deliver on its commitments and budget proposals. “Not even half of the previous budget promises have been implemented,” he said. “The President speaks for hours, but no one has explained who requested 1,700 cabs and from which institution. We are still waiting for that answer.”
Rajapaksa accused the government of manipulating the public with false narratives and divisive politics. “They are playing pickpocket politics, distracting the people while taking away what matters most. The people have woken up to their lies. They even tried to frame me under false claims, but the case collapsed,” he added.
He concluded by inviting all citizens who share the same frustration to join the Nugegoda rally, which is expected to bring together multiple opposition parties under one banner, demanding accountability and genuine leadership.
