Sri Lanka’s cricket tour of Pakistan has been thrown into chaos after a deadly suicide bomb attack in Islamabad forced the visiting players to flee home amid rising security concerns.
Sixteen Sri Lankan players currently in Pakistan have decided to return immediately, citing safety fears following the explosion that shook the capital. As a result, tomorrow’s scheduled second ODI between Sri Lanka and Pakistan has been cancelled. Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) confirmed it is considering sending a replacement squad to ensure the continuation of the series, though the safety of players remains the top priority.
The attack has reignited memories of the 2009 Lahore assault on the Sri Lankan team and raised fresh questions about Pakistan’s ability to host international matches safely. Officials are now in urgent talks to reassess future fixtures in the country.
