A shocking complaint has rocked the Arachchakattuwa Pradeshiya Sabha as a female SJB member accuses the NPP-led chairman of hurling degrading insults, sparking a political storm over verbal abuse, intimidation, and retaliation.
A heated confrontation inside the Arachchakattuwa Pradeshiya Sabha has escalated into a full-blown police complaint after a female Samagi Jana Balawegaya member accused the NPP chairman of verbally abusing her in crude and humiliating language. According to her statement, the chairman allegedly shouted, “You donkey, get out of here,” before further insulting her with the words, “I don’t want to see your stupid faces. Stupid cow.” She claims these comments were directed at her in anger and frustration during an official discussion.
The female representative says the incident occurred when she approached the chairman regarding delays in issuing identity cards to members of the Pradeshiya Sabha. She believes the verbal attack was triggered by her recent vote against the budget, which may have angered the chairman and resulted in what she describes as targeted political retaliation. She further stated that she had been treated with similar hostility for the past three years.
The SJB member emphasised that no woman in public office should be subjected to such degrading language, calling the remarks unacceptable from anyone, especially a chairman elected to represent the people. She insists the incident reflects a growing pattern of political intimidation within the council.
However, the NPP chairman rejected the allegations, claiming that while he spoke firmly, he did not use any abusive or derogatory language. He maintains that the accusations are exaggerated and politically motivated.
With the complaint now officially lodged, police are expected to record statements and begin investigations into the alleged misconduct. The incident has already ignited public debate over political discipline, respect toward female representatives, and the conduct of NPP local government leaders.
