SA20 (Game 10) – Pretoria Capitals vs Durban Super Giants
The Pretoria Capitals emerged victorious over the Durban’s Super Giants, clinching their maiden win of the season. The match showcased high-scoring drama, with both teams leaving no stone unturned in a riveting battle at the crease. The Capitals were led by a century from Will Jacks, which eventually proved too hot for the Super Giants to handle. After a hard-fought final 20 overs, Durban who were consistently under the required run rate, fell short by a moderate 17 runs.
Opting to bat first, Pretoria Capitals got off to a solid start, with both openers setting a brisk pace. Will Jacks played a spectacular innings of 101 in just 42 balls, crafting the fastest century in the competition and propelling the Capitals to a promising position. Despite losing a couple of quick wickets in succession, including the dismissal of Jacks after his sensational knock, Colin Ingram’s contributions of 43 ensured the Capitals reached a formidable total of 204 for 9 wickets.
Durban’s Super Giants, on the other hand, faced early challenges in their batting innings. Most of their key players struggled to find form, and the absence of Nicholas Pooran loomed large. Openers Kyle Mayers and Matthew Breetzke initiated a promising start, but the Super Giants found themselves in a precarious position after losing quick wickets. The middle order mounted a spirited fightback, with JJ Smuts and Keemo Paul injecting some hope. However, the late onslaught led by Dwaine Pretorius and skipper Keshav Maharaj ultimately fell short, and the Super Giants concluded their innings at 187 for 7.
The Capitals’ bowling unit played a crucial role in their victory, with Reece Topley, Junior Dala, and Marcus Stoinis shining in the death overs. Topley’s impressive three-wicket haul and an overall disciplined performance from the bowlers contributed significantly to limiting the Super Giants to a manageable chase.
The Capitals next face the Joburg Super Kings at the Wanderers on the 20th, while the Super Giants head east to Kingsmead and do battle with the Sunrisers Eastern Cape on the same day.
