A young mother has taken her battle to court, alleging that cricketer Chamika Karunaratne fathered her two-month-old baby and has refused all responsibility, forcing her to seek legal action for a DNA test.
A woman has filed a case claiming Sri Lankan cricketer Chamika Karunaratne is the father of her infant and has not accepted responsibility. Speaking to the media after attending the hearing, she said Karunaratne did not appear in court and informed officials he was unwell.
She said she had no choice but to request a court-ordered paternity test because he continued to ignore the situation. According to her, Karunaratne wasted her time at the Women and Children Bureau during her pregnancy, raising fears that he might avoid future hearings as well.
“Chamika Karunaratne is this child’s father. Because he refuses to accept responsibility, I have been forced to come to court,” she said, insisting that she knows the truth and wants legal confirmation.
She emphasised that her child must grow up in Sri Lanka and deserves proper support from both parents. All she is demanding, she said, is for Karunaratne to fulfil his responsibilities if the court confirms the child’s paternity.
