Singer Sangeeth Wijesuriya has ignited controversy with a bold claim that the government’s high-profile drug busts are nothing more than staged spectacles, questioning the credibility of the administration and warning that those involved should be ashamed.
Popular singer Sangeeth Wijesuriya criticised the government’s ongoing drug raid operations during an online discussion, claiming the entire process is designed for show rather than genuine crime control. He said, “This government is now seizing kilos of drugs. What happens to them? It’s just a show. This government is not making it.”
Sangeeth added that his comments are not driven by personal hatred but by deep frustration. “I have no hatred. There is a normal hatred inside my chest,” he said, adding that anyone in the government’s inner circle behaving improperly should be held accountable.
He also spoke about earlier political remarks made by a villager about the President. “When the villager said Anura is black and short, I thought Anura was playing a game. I didn’t get anything personally from Anura. If Anura is a thug, I’ll say it even if I put him in jail. Don’t do thug work, hello people.”
Sangeeth said those in power attempt to silence criticism. “If someone in the compass does that, it’s wrong. If the compass is wrong, they also say not to speak. If you do that too, you should be ashamed. No matter who you are, you are not in the compass.”
He ended by saying the controversy has even affected his career. “Now people don’t even listen to my songs,” he said, expressing disappointment over the political climate and its impact on artists.
