(COLOMBO) – More than 30 police officers of different ranks are suspected to have close links with an alleged Sri Lankan drug boss, police revealed on Friday.
They said the contact phone numbers were found on the mobile phone of the suspect who is currently being held in police custody on a detention order.
The contact numbers are currently being probed to ascertain if the police officers had made contact with the suspect on alleged drug deals or on other official matters, a senior policeman said.
The suspect known by police only as ‘Harak Kata’ or cattle’s mouth also launched a botched breakout from the police headquarters in the commercial capital of Colombo after served to his interrogators were laced with a minor tranquilizer several months ago.
It was an inside job and a low-ranking police officer is currently being hunted for his alleged connection.
