A striking viral moment shows Sri Lanka’s armed forces stepping in to protect national aviation operations, helping flight crews reach the airport despite the country’s most severe weather disaster in years.
Amid the ongoing national crisis caused by relentless floods and destructive weather, the Sri Lanka Army has offered remarkable support to SriLankan Airlines by ensuring the safe transport of its Cabin Crew during the emergency. After an urgent appeal from the airline requesting all staff to report for duty despite the dangerous conditions, the Army responded immediately by deploying military vehicles to transport flight attendants to the Katunayake airport. A viral social media video shows two flight stewardesses being assisted into a military truck by an army soldier as they head to operate an international flight. The scene has become a powerful symbol of national unity, public service and commitment in the face of widespread disruption.
Tri Forces and Police Lead the Way in Humanitarian Effort
This moment reflects only a fraction of the massive humanitarian work carried out by Sri Lanka’s Tri Forces and Police. Across the island, military teams have conducted flood rescues, delivered food and water to stranded families, coordinated emergency evacuations and supported medical teams. Their presence has offered reassurance and lifesaving assistance during one of the most intense disaster periods in recent memory.
In a tragic reminder of the risks faced by rescue personnel, a Sri Lanka Air Force helicopter pilot recently lost his life during a mission. His sacrifice has been deeply felt across the country and highlights the courage and dedication shown by the armed forces throughout this crisis.
A Nation Comes Together
Beyond the military, thousands of Sri Lankans have united in an extraordinary show of solidarity. Citizens have donated food, clothing and essential supplies while others have provided transport, shelter and hands-on support to families affected by the floods. Communities have opened their doors, volunteers have worked tirelessly and the spirit of compassion has shone brightly despite the hardship.
While the national challenges remain significant, the strength and unity of the people continue to rise above the storm. Sri Lanka stands together, determined to rebuild and protect one another through every difficult moment.
