Sri Lanka Cricket has roped in seasoned Indian coach R. Sridhar to sharpen the national team’s fielding ahead of key overseas tours and the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, aiming to restore pride and intensity in the field.
Sri Lanka Cricket has announced the appointment of R. Sridhar as the Fielding Coach of the Sri Lanka National Team, with his tenure running until the conclusion of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
A BCCI Level 3 qualified coach, Sridhar brings a wealth of international experience, having served as the Fielding Coach of the India National Men’s Team from 2014 to 2021. During that period, he was involved in more than 300 international matches, playing a key role in elevating India’s fielding standards to one of the best in world cricket.
Sridhar will now focus on improving Sri Lanka’s fielding performance, working closely with players during upcoming tours to Pakistan and England, before turning attention to preparations for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. Sri Lanka Cricket said his role will be central to building consistency, athleticism, and confidence in the field.
Speaking on his appointment, Sridhar said, “Sri Lankan players have always stood for instinctive brilliance, resilience, and collective spirit. My role is not to impose a system, but to nurture an environment where athleticism, awareness, and pride in the field can grow naturally.”
Sri Lanka Cricket also noted that Sridhar is already familiar with the local setup. Earlier this year, he conducted a 10 day specialised fielding programme at the National High Performance Center, working with both national and emerging players.
He added, “Fielding thrives when players feel connected to the ball, to each other, and to the moment. Sri Lanka’s traditional strengths, quick hands, sharp reflexes, and fearless intent, can be further enhanced by creating realistic, game like learning environments.”
Sridhar’s appointment will be effective from 11 December 2025 to 10 March 2026, covering a critical phase in Sri Lanka’s international calendar.
