U19 World Cup 2024 (Game 4) – India vs Bangladesh
In a resounding display of their title defense, India Under-19, the defending champions, initiated their campaign in the 15th edition of the Men’s Under-19 World Cup with a convincing victory. Although their batting innings aimed for a more robust conclusion, the Indian bowlers, led by Saumy Pandey’s four-wicket haul and Musheer Khan’s double scalps, orchestrated early breakthroughs to assert control. The dismantling of the Bangladesh batting lineup contributed to an emphatic win, setting the tone for India’s pursuit of continued success in the tournament.
India Under-19 set a target of 252 after being inserted into bat. Despite early blows, skipper Uday Saharan and Adarsh Singh laid a solid foundation, both securing fifties. While India struggled to maintain momentum after the partnership was broken, Aravelly Rao, Sachin Dhas, and Priyanshu Moliya contributed breezy cameos to reach 251. Bangladesh Under-19’s Maruf Mridha stood out with a five-wicket haul, finishing with figures of 5 for 43.
Bangladesh Under-19, in pursuit of 252, faced early setbacks, losing three wickets in the Powerplay. Despite a resilient start, wickets fell quickly, with Ariful Islam and Md. Shihab James rebuilding. However, India’s bowlers, led by Saumy Pandey, applied pressure. Musheer Khan broke a crucial partnership, and Saumy Pandey and Priyanshu Moliya capitalized on that breakthrough, running through the Bangladesh lower order. Bangladesh’s innings concluded at 167, resulting in an 84-run victory for India.
