Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa says the government has now embraced a health sector funding concept his party pioneered, calling it a quiet acknowledgment of the Opposition’s policy vision.
The government has effectively adopted a concept first proposed by the Opposition to encourage wealthy individuals to donate towards the development of Sri Lanka’s health sector, Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa said yesterday.
He stated that the announcement made by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake on Friday confirms that the government has moved in the direction of a model that his party had earlier proposed and already put into practice.
Premadasa made this remark after donating medical equipment to the Aranayake Hospital, stressing that public healthcare must be strengthened through collective responsibility and targeted support from those with greater financial capacity.
President Anura Kumara Dissanayake said on Friday that the government plans to introduce donor-based packages, enabling contributors to assist national rebuilding efforts, particularly in the aftermath of the cyclone disaster and its impact on essential services.
