Public Security Minister Ananda Wijepala told the Sri Lankan Parliament that official investigations have confirmed Sarah Jasmine is not dead, dismissing widespread speculation that had circulated for years. However, authorities have still been unable to verify whether she is currently residing in India or elsewhere. The Minister stated that law enforcement agencies are actively considering issuing an open warrant against her, indicating that legal action will proceed once her whereabouts are confirmed.
Wijepala made these remarks in response to a parliamentary question raised by MP Mujibur Rahman to the Deputy Minister of Defense. He stressed that details of the ongoing investigation cannot be disclosed at this stage, as premature disclosure could prejudice legal proceedings. Despite her absence, Sarah Jasmine remains a controversial figure in Sri Lanka, linked to financial irregularities and alleged attempts to obstruct high profile investigations. These allegations have kept her name firmly in the public domain even as she remains missing.
During the same parliamentary session, attention once again turned to unresolved accountability issues surrounding the Easter Sunday attacks. MP Nizam Kariyapper questioned why four intelligence officers who served under then Eastern Provincial Commander Major General Aruna Jayasekara have not been arrested, despite being linked to the attacks. He highlighted that while two police officers were detained during investigations, the four intelligence officers continue to remain free, raising serious concerns about selective enforcement and institutional accountability within Sri Lanka’s security apparatus.
Sarah Jasmine’s continued elusiveness, combined with her controversial past, has intensified scrutiny on both law enforcement and intelligence agencies.
