Relentless rain brought play to a halt in Dambulla, leaving fans frustrated and the T20 series hanging on a weather-dependent decider.
Rain once again played spoilsport during Pakistan’s tour of Sri Lanka as the second Twenty20 International at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium was abandoned without a ball being bowled on Friday evening.
Persistent showers delayed the toss and steadily worsened as the evening progressed, forcing match officials to eventually call off the contest. The outfield remained waterlogged throughout, with groundstaff keeping the entire playing area under covers while battling conditions that offered no window for play.
The abandonment means Pakistan head into the third and final T20I with a 1-0 lead in the three match series, following their convincing six wicket victory in the opening game at the same venue earlier this week. In that encounter, Pakistan’s bowlers restricted Sri Lanka to 128 before the visitors chased down the target comfortably with overs to spare.
The washout continues a run of weather disruptions that have affected fixtures and preparations for both teams in recent days. With momentum currently in Pakistan’s favour, attention now shifts to the series decider.
The final T20 International is scheduled for Sunday, with both Sri Lanka and Pakistan hoping for clear skies to ensure a full game that conclusively decides the series.
