SLPP National Organizer Namal Rajapaksa accuses the President of pushing ideologically driven education reforms with arrogance, warning that decisions detached from Sri Lanka’s culture, religion, and national needs will only deepen public mistrust.
Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna National Organizer and Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa has strongly criticized the President’s approach to education reform, saying recent statements reflect arrogance rather than national responsibility. He argued that assuming education reforms aligned with the Janata Vimukthi Peramuna are automatically suitable for the country is a serious misjudgment.
Rajapaksa said the President’s own speech makes it clear that the proposed education reforms are not compatible with Sri Lanka’s social and educational realities, yet the government appears determined to press ahead regardless of public concern. He warned that decisions taken with arrogance will not serve the nation, its people, or even the President himself.
While emphasizing that both the SLPP and the wider public recognize the need for reforms within the education system and government institutions, Rajapaksa stressed that reform must be thoughtful, practical, and rooted in national interest. He said changes should strengthen the education system, not reshape it to fit the ideological preferences of a single political movement.
The MP also urged the President to understand the importance of safeguarding Sri Lanka’s religious and cultural foundations. He cautioned against political interference in sensitive areas such as religion and education, noting that such actions risk long term damage to social harmony.
Rajapaksa concluded by stating that the government must take full responsibility for any fallout arising from education reforms that are misaligned with Sri Lanka’s established education system. He reiterated that reform should unite the country, not divide it along ideological lines.
