(COLOMBO) – A Sri Lankan man was arrested after he is alleged to beaten to death his 67-year-old mother over a festering family dispute, police said on Thursday.
They said the woman who was not named was a resident in the tea growing central town of Nawalapitiya some 124 kilometres from the commercial capital of Colombo.
They said the suspect had earlier denied involvement in the killing but later confessed after an autopsy revealed that the victim had suffered a broken jaw and 22 internal bones.
Initial investigations have revealed that the father had earlier left the home to live with his daughter after he was repeatedly beaten up by his son.
The police were however not available to provide details over the family dispute but believe it may be a property issue.
