A high-value Colombo property linked to a former first family is now under scrutiny, as investigators move to examine how millions were allegedly raised and transferred.
A complaint has been filed with the Bribery or Corruption Investigation Commission over a house valued at approximately Rs. 400 million located on Torrington Mawatha in Colombo 05, allegedly purchased in the name of former first lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa.
The Commission has initiated a special investigation following a submission made by a civil society activist and has already recorded additional statements from the complainant to verify facts connected to the property.
Investigators are expected to obtain a statement from Shiranthi Rajapaksa as the next step of the inquiry, according to sources familiar with the process.
The complainant has stated that former President Mahinda Rajapaksa and his family resided in the same house from 2001 until he assumed the presidency.
The complaint further claims that after Mahinda Rajapaksa became president, the property was formally purchased in the name of Shiranthi Rajapaksa.
Citing serious suspicions over funding, the complainant urged the Commission to conduct a full investigation.
