A major tech-driven reset as Sri Lanka’s oldest political party blends grassroots power with apps, satellite internet, and digital organisers.
The United National Party is preparing to open a new chapter in Sri Lanka’s political landscape by combining its long standing organisational network with modern digital technology. Party officials say this transformation signals a decisive shift toward future focused political engagement.
Accordingly, the UNP Deputy General Secretariat has announced a special digital launch to be held at the party headquarters, Sirikotha Mandir, in line with the national Independence Day celebrations on February 04, 2026. A key highlight of the programme will be the official rollout of Digital Ward Coordinators across all constituencies islandwide.
In the initial phase, 1,000 controller coordination officers are set to be appointed, with the aim of speeding up party organisation and strengthening direct engagement at village level through digital tools. The event will also see the launch of a new “UNP App”, designed to improve communication, information sharing, public awareness, and coordination among party members and organisers.
Another major milestone will be the activation of Starlink high speed satellite internet at Sirikotha, marking a significant upgrade in digital infrastructure. Party leaders say this modernisation drive will position the UNP as the most digitally advanced political force in the country.
