A court hearing has revealed new international inquiries into a controversial London visit, with investigators now examining official invitations, foreign awareness, and the role of key individuals linked to the former presidency.
Additional Solicitor General Dileepa Peiris informed court that a detailed questionnaire had been sent to the University of Wolverhampton in the United Kingdom to verify facts surrounding former President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s visit to London. The inquiry focuses on how the invitation was extended and how the British government became aware of the visit.
These submissions were made when former Presidential Secretary Saman Ekanayake was produced before court while in remand custody. The court granted a request by the Additional Solicitor General to obtain a handwriting analysis report concerning documents linked to the former Presidential Secretary.
Mr. Peiris further stated that Maithri Wickremesinghe and Sandra Perera had also participated in the visit and that their actions would be subject to investigation as part of the ongoing probe.
Following submissions, the court ordered that Mr. Saman Ekanayake be further remanded until the 18th as investigations continue.
