Current Member of Parliament Nimal Lanza speaking in the vernacular to a gathering at his new alliance debut rally in Ja-Ela Sri Lanka on Friday, suggested that the current Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) or People’s Liberation Front (PLF) political party leaders’ wives bare their breasts and parade themselves from the south of the country to Colombo.
MP Lanza made this suggestion after a left-leaning Sri Lankan politician Lal Kantha, a senior politburo member of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) or People’s Liberation Front (PLF) had earlier made a statement calling for public parades to be done by topless women clad only in revealing shorts in order to enhance the tourism industry in the cash-strapped island-nation.
A mainstream newspaper reporting this earlier quoted Lal Kantha saying that tourism could be boosted by incorporating African dances along with a Western culture.
He had suggested that the parades or processions should start from the Deep South tourist hot spot of Galle and reach the commercial capital of Colombo covering a distance of some 72 miles.
Lal Kantha however added that such parades should be strictly banned from major local cultural events or else it would hurt local feelings.
MP Lansa started off his speech by blaming those such as Nalaka Godahewa, Dr. Anuruddha Padeniya and members of the businessmen community that misled the former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa. He said the current financial mess the country is enduring is because of them.
Speaking further, MP Lansa went on to question the economic solutions that the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) or People’s Liberation Front (PLF) had for the country before blaming them for showing no respect for cultural and moral values of towards society.
Do you think our tourism would be boosted if we have topless dancers parading the street?
If that is so, then I suggest that the wives of Anura Kumara Dissanayake, Sunil Handunnetti, Bimal Ratnayake and Vijitha Herath parade topless and we could see if tourism will be boosted.
Forget boosting tourism, we could lose whatever tourists we would get if they happened to see the topless wives of these politicians.
They then suggest that prostitution be legalized. Does anyone of them do a job or work?
They should let out mothers, younger and older sisters be, they should then get their people to do those jobs. I am not saying its a good thing to do.
I would like to tell the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) or People’s Liberation Front (PLF) to withdraw their statements made regarding the parading of topless women and legalizing of prostitution, because if they don’t, we will have women surround their political office at Pelawatte until their leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake withdraws their statements” he said.
