A wave of coordinated shootings in Kalutara and Jintupitiya has left one man dead, three others hospitalized, and communities gripped by fear as police hunt heavily armed suspects.
A deadly shooting in the Wadiya Mankada area under the Kalutara North Police Division has intensified concerns over rising gun violence. A 32 year old man succumbed to his injuries after being admitted to hospital in critical condition with multiple gunshot wounds. Police investigations indicate that a group of gunmen arrived on a motorcycle and opened fire using a 9mm firearm before fleeing the scene.
In a separate but equally alarming incident, four individuals were injured when an unidentified gunman targeted several people inside a barbershop near Warakahandiya within the Coastal Police Domain. The victims were rushed to the Colombo National Hospital for emergency treatment. Authorities have so far withheld details about their identities and medical conditions.
Preliminary findings reveal that a T 56 firearm was used in the salon shooting, suggesting the involvement of high powered weapons. The Coastal Police have launched extensive investigations to track down the suspects and determine whether these shootings are linked.
