The low pressure system drifts away, easing heavy rains across Sri Lanka, but showers, fog and thunderstorms still threaten several provinces.
According to the Meteorological Department, the prevailing heavy rain situation is gradually easing as the low pressure area over the south-west Bay of Bengal moves away from the island. The department issued this update at 2 p.m. today.
However, intermittent rain is expected tomorrow in the North, North Central and North Western provinces and in Trincomalee district. Morning showers may affect the coastal areas of Kalutara, Galle and Matara.
Afternoon thundershowers are likely in Central and Sabaragamuwa provinces and parts of the southern districts, with rainfall possibly exceeding 50 mm in some locations.
Foggy conditions may prevail in several inland areas. Authorities urge the public to remain cautious of gusty winds and lightning.
