Deputy Minister Eranga Gunasekara dismisses criticism over language mistakes, arguing that political opponents are focusing on minor issues because they lack real accusations against the government.
Deputy Minister Eranga Gunasekara has defended the government amid criticism over English language errors made during an international conference appearance. Responding to journalists, he said that focusing on a wrongly pronounced word or minor language mistake only wastes valuable time and distracts from real national issues.
The Deputy Minister noted that the opposition has failed to present serious allegations against the current administration. According to him, highlighting English pronunciation mistakes has become a convenient tactic to attack the government without addressing policy matters.
Gunasekara made these remarks when asked about criticism directed at Sri Lanka’s Foreign Minister following comments made during a conference in India. The minister’s English pronunciation had drawn attention and sparked political debate.
He questioned what real benefit the country received from leaders who previously ruled while claiming strong English language skills.
