(COLOMBO) – A senior Sri Lankan police officer has come under probe after he is alleged to have beaten up a woman with ripe mangoes and a weighing scale at a road side fruit stall close to the commercial capital of Colombo, Police said on Saturday.
The victim described as a businesswoman has told police that the suspect police officer holding the rank of Assistant Police Superintendent (ASP) had allegedly assaulted her following a heated argument.
The incident took place in the town of Hanwella some 30 kilometres from Colombo and in broad day light.
The reason for the argument was not identified but the woman is currently receiving treatment at a State hospital.
