Sagala Ratnayake, Senior Adviser to the President on National Security and Chief of the Presidential Staff, along with E. M. S. B. Ekanayake, Secretary to the President, celebrated Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage as a dedicated and highly trained military leader. Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage, the Commander of the Army, received commendation for his recent ground-breaking static parachute jump at the Presidential Secretariat last Saturday.
Earlier last month, according to the Sri Lanka Army’s official website, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage was seen handing President Ranil Wickremesinghe specially crafted ‘Attache Bags’ or commonly known as Presidential dispatch bags, crafted jointly by the Directorate of Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (DEME) and the Directorate of Information Technology on the instructions of the Commander of the Army.
The SLA website stated “The ‘Attaché Case’, a sophisticated briefcase is generally carried by world leaders as a tradition to take their important and essential documents with them wherever they travel, and the President wanted this world famous tradition be introduced to our country by directing the Sri Lanka Army to craft this Presidential dispatch bag to match with international standards.
Under the guidance and direct supervision of the Commander of the Army, a group of skilled experts in the field, headed by Director General, Directorate of Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, Major General J.A.R.S.K Jayasekara USP psc designed the state-of-the-art Dispatch Bag as per specifications given by the Presidential Secretariat incorporating high-end technology.”
His Excellency the President after accepting and inspecting the high quality and neatly done Presidential Dispatch Bag from the Commander of the Army commended the Army for its craftsmanship and the durability. Traditionally, the Presidential Dispatch Bag would be handed over to the successive President.
