England’s Tour of India 2024 (2nd Test)
In a brilliant display of batting talents and bowling skills, India emerged victorious over England by 101 runs. This win means that the scores are not on level terms going into the third Test of five. Yashwi Jaiswal’s magnificent double ton in the first innings of the game helped India dictate terms through the second test, doing well to pile on the pressure as the days rolled on.
The stage was set on Day 1 as Yashasvi Jaiswal’s composed innings of 209, supported by crucial contributions from Shubman Gill and Axar Patel, propelled India to 396 in their first innings. Despite facing disciplined bowling from James Anderson and England’s spin quartet, India ended Day 1 at 336 for 6.
Day 2 witnessed a spirited response from England’s Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett, but Jasprit Bumrah’s fiery spell, claiming six crucial wickets, dismantled the core of England’s batting lineup. Kuldeep Yadav’s impactful bowling partnership with Bumrah resulted in England being bowled out for 253, giving India a significant lead of 143 runs.
India did well to capitalize on their lead, with Shubman Gill stepping up to the plate with a much needed century. Despite England’s spinners making crucial breakthroughs, India still ended their second innings with 255 more runs on the board, leading to an exciting finish with England trailing far behind.
As Day 4 dawned, England faced the daunting task of chasing 399 runs. Zak Crawley and Rehan Ahmed provided a solid start, but India’s relentless bowling, led by Bumrah and Ravichandran Ashwin, shattered England’s hopes. The post-lunch session saw a brilliant run-out by Shreyas Iyer, dismissing Ben Stokes and further denting England’s aspirations.
In the end, India’s impeccable fielding and dominant bowling attack secured a comprehensive victory, as they bowled out England for 292. The win on Day 4 by 106 runs not only showcased India’s strength but also leveled the series 1-1, setting the stage for an exciting decider in the Test series against England.
