Official system data contradicts government claims, raising serious questions about transparency as power cuts quietly hit the island during peak hours.
While power outages have been reported from several areas across the island, the Energy Minister’s statement in Parliament claiming that no power cuts occurred has triggered sharp criticism from the opposition.
Opposition MP Ajith P. Perera has accused the Minister of concealing the truth regarding the ongoing power crisis in Sri Lanka.
Responding to the Minister’s claim made in Parliament yesterday that there were no power interruptions, Ajith P. Perera addressed the issue through his social media platform.
“The Minister informed Parliament that there was no power cut yesterday. Even if the Minister was unaware, official power system reports clearly indicate that a power cut did take place. This raises serious concerns about his suitability for the position,” he stated.
The MP further noted that he intends to submit official power system data to support his claims.
According to these reports, due to insufficient electricity generation, system demand had to be managed through manual load shedding on 33kV feeders between 6:31 pm and 10:59 pm yesterday.
