SA20 (Game 28) – MI Cape Town vs Pretoria Capitals
Pretoria Capitals pulled off a stunning comeback to clinch a 4 wicket victory against MI Cape Town at Newlands. Cape Town first posted a competitive total, with Rassie van der Dussen leading the charge, but ultimately failing to hold back Pretoria’s Muthusamy in the closing stages. This meant that MI fell short on points, sending the Capitals through with Joburg having a game in hand.
MI Cape Town needed to win inorder to qualify for the next round, but it was not meant to be. Batting first, the tournament favorites could only post an ordinary total of 163 runs, losing wickets at regular intervals. Wayne Parnell led the charge with a brilliant 4 wicket haul as skipper, while Rashid and Eathan Bosch claimed two apiece.
Chasing a modest 164, Pretoria Capitals found themselves in a spot of bother. They lost their powerhouse opening batters Salt and Jacks early in the chase and before they knew it were struggling at five down for just 74 at 12 overs. A resilient effort from the middle order, led by Kyle Verreynne’s explosive knock, kept their hopes alive, before Theunis de Bruyn and Senuran Muthusamy played pivotal roles in turning the tide in Pretoria Capitals’ favor.
Despite the pressure, Muthusamy showcased spectacular skill with the bat, delivering breathtaking strokes to secure the victory. Skipper Wayne Parnell, who had an outstanding performance with the ball, remained calm in the crucial moments of the chase, guiding his team to a thrilling 4 wicket win with 2 balls to spare.
