A moving farewell at the National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka turned into a powerful reflection on leadership, sacrifice, and unseen contributions, as colleagues and former officials paid tribute to President Suresh Subramaniam’s tenure and the lasting impact he leaves behind.
The National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka gathered on April 10, 2026, to bid an emotional farewell to its President, Mr. Suresh Subramaniam. The occasion brought together Executive Board Members and staff, reflecting the deep respect and appreciation for his tenure.
Those present expressed their sincere gratitude for his leadership, dedication, and unwavering service to Sri Lankan sport. His contributions, many believe, will continue to influence and strengthen the sporting landscape of the country for years to come.
Adding a personal perspective to the moment, former NOCSL Executive Committee Member and Treasurer, Senaka Ranasinghe, shared a heartfelt message on the committee’s official Facebook page. Reflecting on his time working alongside Subramaniam, Ranasinghe highlighted the President’s commitment and personal sacrifices.
He noted that during his tenure, Subramaniam covered even his official travel expenses from his own pocket and never claimed allowances. According to Ranasinghe, Sri Lanka was fortunate to have a leader of such character, describing him as a personality who placed service above personal gain.
However, he also pointed out that internal politics within the Executive Committee had undermined much of the good work carried out during Subramaniam’s leadership, with infighting among members creating significant challenges.
Ranasinghe further revealed that many sponsors were brought into the NOCSL through Subramaniam’s personal connections, often at the cost of his own business opportunities, efforts he described as largely unrecognized but deeply impactful.
He concluded by thanking Subramaniam for his service and sacrifices, while wishing him good health and continued success in all future endeavors.
