(COLOMBO) – Mufti clad Sri Lankan policemen will ride on public transport to nab perverts following an increase of sexual harassment against women and girls, an official with the Public Security Ministry said on Wednesday.
He said this special operation will be carried out throughout the country on public transport services mainly buses and trains during the morning and evening rush hours.
The operation will be carried out directly under the Acting Inspector General of Police Deshabandu Tennakoon, the official said.
The police operatives will also be stationed on busy streets, bus halts and railway stations, he said.
Arrangements have also been made to deploy groups of police officers in uniforms, especially covering the main roads, ready to provide assistance to the officers travelling in civilian clothes should they need assistance.
