(COLOMBO) – Three Sri Lankan policemen were suspended from their duties with immediate effect following a botched murder attempt on two suspects being held in the police station’s holding cell, police said on Thursday.
The incident took place at the Wolfendhal Police Station in the heart of the commercial capital of Colombo, police said.
The three policemen were interdicted for apparent neglect of duty after a visitor had offered the victims flavoured milk laced with poison and which is now suspected to be cyanide.
The two men are in a critical condition at the city’s main hospital in Colombo and they had been arrested in connection with a murder that that took place on January 24, police said.
