West Indies’ Tour of Australia 2024 (2nd ODI)
Australia continued their dominance over the West Indies, securing an unassailable 2-0 lead with a 34 run win. The match will be remembered for Glenn Maxwell’s record breaking century, propelling Australia to their highest-ever T20I total.
Australia were sent into bat first by the West Indies and were quick to lose 3 wickets in the powerplay, although running at 10 runs an over. Glen Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis brought life back into the Australian dug out, and Tim David later came in to further bolster the Australian scorecard. Maxwell and David took the fight right to the West Indies bowlers, clobbering them for a massive 95 runs in the last six overs.
Glenn Maxwell went on to break the record for the fastest T20 hundred hit on Australian soil, doing so in 50 balls. His swashbuckling unbeaten hundred set the stage for Australia’s 241 total, featuring eight sixes and 12 fours. Tim David also chipped in with a crucial 31 to make matters worse for the Carribeans.
The West Indies gave it their all, with skipper Rovman Powell leading the charge with a valiant 63 off 36 balls. However, fell short by 34 runs, as Australia’s collective effort with the ball kept them ahead throughout the game. Marcus Stoinis was the best bowler out of the lot, picking up 3 wickets for 36 while Hazlewood and Spencer Johnson snatched two each.
