(COLOMBO) – A jilted 19-year-old girl was arrested after she allegedly stabbed her boyfriend when he had indicated that their relationship must come to an end.
The incident took place at a crowded fish market in the central town of Gampola some 123 kilometres from Sri Lanka’s commercial capital of Colombo, police said on Wednesday.
Initial investigations have revealed that the suspect accompanied with her brother and mother had confronted the victim at the fish market that led to a heated argument.
The girl is later alleged to have grabbed a cleaver from a fish trader and stabbed the 22-year-old victim in front of horrific bystanders.
The girl was promptly apprehended and handed over to the local police. The girl was later ordered to be remanded by a local Magistrate.
The victim was later rushed to a regional State hospital where according to health officials his condition was not life-threatening.
