(COLOMBO) – A doctor was arrested in central Sri Lanka for the alleged illegal sale of large stocks of controlled drugs, police said on Wednesday.
The doctor lives and practices his profession in the country’s central hill capital of Kandy some 122 kilometres from the commercial capital of Colombo.
Investigations have found out that the doctor operated multiple private medical practices in various areas and utilised them as fronts for the sale of these drugs.
According to police, the doctor had been arrested while selling a stock of controlled drugs worth Rs. 160,000.
The authorities further claim that the arrested doctor conducted these transactions by traveling in his vehicle during the night.
The doctor was to be produced before a local Magistrate sometime later on Wednesday.
