(COLOMBO) – Sri Lanka’s Actg. Police Chief Deshabandu Tennakoon on Thursday said that 42 Interpol ‘Red Notices’ have been issued against criminals who have fled the country and are in connection with underworld activities and drug offences.
Tennakoon was speaking at the opening of a new police post in the commercial capital of Colombo.
He said that the relevant criminal suspects would be brought back to the island with the assistance of Interpol at the very earliest and stopped short of giving a time frame.
Tennakoon’s comments came hours after a wanted Sri Lankan gangster was repatriated to the country from Dubai during the early hours of Thursday.
“The alleged gangster identified as Salindu Malshika could provide more light on the country’s drug distributing syndicates and organized criminal outfits”, Tennakoon said.
Meanwhile, Tennakoon emphasized that the countrywide current anti-drug operation ‘Yukthiya’ or ‘Justice’ will also be carried out without a pause.
