(COLOMBO) – Sri Lanka and Israel on Thursday endorsed an agreement that will see direct flights between the two countries aimed at expediting Lankan migrant workers intending to take up employment in the Jewish State.
Ports, Shipping, and Aviation Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva said the agreement, marked the beginning of direct flights between Israel and Sri Lanka, aiming to enhance passenger convenience.
He also said the agreement’s objective of facilitating prompt overseas employment for Sri Lankan workers and noted the interest of many Israelis intending to visit Sri Lanka.
He also said that negotiations have commenced with Indigo Airlines to introduce an additional daily flight service to India via Palali Airport situated in the north of the country.
Furthermore, an Expression of Interest (EOI) has also been called for the development of the Mattala Airport.
