- PSL 2024 – (Game 5) – Islamabad United vs Multan Sultans
Hendricks and Rizwan slogged through Islamabad in game 5 of the PSL, giving the Sultans their third consecutive win in the tournament. The Sultans chased down a below par score set by United in the final ball of the match, despite a good all round batting performance.
Islamabad United encountered early struggles after winning the toss, but found stability through a determined partnership between Agha Salman and Jordan Cox. Salman’s resilient half-century and Cox’s well-made 41 propelled United to a total of 144 runs in their allotted 20 overs, despite three-fers from Mohammad Ali and Abbas Afridi of the Sultans.
The Multan Sultans did not get off to the best of starts either, losing the wicket of Dawid Malan early in the run chase. However, a resilient 43 from Mohammad Rizwan and a half century from Reeza Hendricks steadied their innings, keeping them in the hunt. As wickets fell at crucial intervals, the tension mounted, but the Sultans remained determined. Despite notable contributions of 18 not out from Ifthikar Ahmed, the match still came down to the wire, with the Sultans needing a mere 3 runs off the final over.
Facing the pressure, the Sultans exhibited nerves of steel, ultimately reaching the target with just one ball to spare, finishing at 145 for 5 in 19.5 overs.
