(COLOMBO) – The police in Sri Lanka on Thursday arrested a young woman, the sixth suspect to be apprehended in connection with the unexplained murder of a Buddhist monk late last month.
The 22-year-old woman was picked up from a safe house after she is alleged to have provided shelter to the main suspect in the case, police said.
The Buddhist monk was shot dead inside his temple in the Gampaha electorate not far away from the commercial capital of Colombo.
In the early hours of January 23, a group of four assailants, who had arrived in a car, shot dead the Buddhist monk before fleeing in a stolen car.
The car was later recovered from the fourth suspect and an assault rifle that is believed to have been used in the shooting is also in police custody.
