- Australia’s Tour of New Zealand 2024 (2nd T20)
Australia clinched the second T20I against New Zealand, beating the Kiwi’s by a staggering 72 runs. A dominant bowling effort by Josh Hazlewood and Adam Zampa in the second innings left the hosts speechless, after having had the Aussies on the ropes. Australia’s victory also sealed the coveted Chappell-Hadlee Trophy with one match to go.
After a shaky start, Australia showcased resilience in their batting innings, with contributions from Travis Head, Pat Cummins, and Tim David. The men in green ended their topsy-turvy innings on a high, ending with a score of 174.
However, the real spectacle unfolded during New Zealand’s attempt at chasing the given target, where Australia’s bowlers unleashed a relentless onslaught. Josh Hazlewood’s impeccable opening spell set the tone, utilizing the bounce of the Eden Park surface to stifle New Zealand’s batsmen.
Adam Zampa emerged as the star performer, claiming four crucial wickets with his variations and control, further dismantling New Zealand’s batting order. Alongside Hazlewood, Zampa’s contribution proved pivotal in restricting the hosts to a paltry total. The collective effort of Australia’s bowling unit, including Mitchell Marsh, Pat Cummins and Nathan Ellis helped maintain pressure on the opposition throughout the innings, making it challenging for them to mount a significant challenge.
New Zealand were eventually bundled out for 102 by the end of the sixteenth over, with Devon Conway unable to take the crease due to injury. Pat Cummins was awarded the man of the match for his crucial contribution with the bat and his skillful three overs leading to New Zealand’s downfall.
