PSL 2024 (Game 14) – Multan Sultans vs Lahore Qalanders
The Multan Sultans thrashed the Lahore Qalandars by a resounding 60 runs, maintaining their position at the top of the table with five wins in the past six games. Usama Mir took the PSL by storm, with a remarkable six-wicket haul, spearheading Sultans’ emphatic triumph over the struggling Qalandars.
Opting to bat first, Multan Sultans posted a daunting total of 214 for 4, registering this season’s highest score despite resting overseas players Dawid Malan, Chris Jordan, and David Willey. Usman Khan of the UAE stole the show with a scintillating knock of 96 runs off just 55 balls, showcasing his batting prowess with 11 boundaries and two sixes. Supported by Reeza Hendricks and Tayyab Tahir, Usman orchestrated vital partnerships, while Iftikhar Ahmed’s explosive cameo of unbeaten 40 off 18 balls added impetus to Sultans’ innings.
However, Lahore Qalandars’ pursuit of the challenging target faltered early as Sultans’ spinners wreaked havoc, with Usama Mir leading the charge. Mir’s exceptional spell of 6 for 40, the first six-wicket haul by a spinner in PSL history, dismantled Qalandars’ batting lineup, restricting them to a mere 154 all out in 17 overs. Despite a promising start by their openers, Qalandars succumbed to the relentless pressure exerted by Sultans’ bowling attack, failing to mount a substantial challenge.
The Qalandars’ woes continued as their search for a breakthrough victory extended, marking their sixth consecutive loss in the tournament. In contrast, Multan Sultans’ commanding performance reaffirmed their status as title contenders, with their formidable batting lineup and potent bowling arsenal posing formidable challenges to their opponents.
