PSL 2024 (Game 16) – Karachi Kings vs Quetta Gladiators
The Quetta Gladiators secured a last-ball victory over the depleted Karachi Kings, powered by Sherfane Rutherford and Akeal Hossein. The pair’s late heroics guided their team to a five-wicket triumph, showcasing their might as middle order Quetta Gladiators. Rutherford smashed six towering sixes and a decisive boundary off the final delivery, as Quetta overcame a mid-innings collapse to chase down 166 runs and claim their fourth win in five games.
Earlier in the innings, Karachi Kings got off to a promising start with nearly every batsman contributing, but none managed to convert their starts into substantial scores. James Vince anchored the innings with a crucial knock, while Anwar Ali’s explosive cameo in the final over provided the much-needed impetus. Quetta’s Abrar Ahmed emerged as the standout bowler, claiming three wickets to stifle Karachi’s momentum, supported by a collective effort from the bowling unit.
Despite Karachi Kings’ spirited fightback, courtesy of wickets from Shoaib Malik and Hasan Ali, along with crucial contributions from Zahid Mahmood, the target proved insufficient as Rutherford and Akeal Hosein’s partnership took the game away from them. Mohammad Nawaz and Anwar Ali’s expensive spells added to Karachi’s woes, allowing Quetta Gladiators to clinch victory in dramatic fashion.
Quetta’s triumph was orchestrated by a brilliant fightback led by Sherfane Rutherford and Akeal Hosein. Although Jason Roy and Saud Shakeel provided a solid foundation, the middle order faltered before Rutherford and Hosein steadied the ship, ensuring no further setbacks and ultimately sealing the game for their team.
