(COLOMBO) – The Sri Lankan authorities arrested a group of 22 Indian nationals for alleged IT fraud using smart phones and laptops, police said on Thursday.
The group was rounded up from a safe house at Thalangama in the outskirts of the commercial capital of Colombo following a tip-off from a clerk attached to the Indian High Commission office.
Some 35 mobile phones and five laptops were also recovered by police but they stopped short of giving the nature of the alleged IT fraud.
Initial investigations have revealed that the group was in the country on easily available tourist visas.
The arrested Indians were later handed over to the Immigration and Emigration Department for further investigations, Police said.
