In a gesture of goodwill, Sri Lanka Cricket under its President Shammi Silva has decided to cement its bonds of friendship further by helping promote the sport in the Far Eastern nation of Japan.
Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Japan Cricket Association (JCA) to develop its game through collaborations, exchanges, and also providing expertise pertaining to the game.
The MOU was signed by SLC President Shammi Silva and JSC CEO Naoki Alex Miyaji at the SLC Headquarters in Colombo recently.
Japan’s appointed Deputy Ambassador to Sri Lanka Mr. Kotaro Katsuki, SLC CEO Ashley De Silva and Mr. Priyantha Kariyapperuma the Goodwill Ambassador of Japan Cricket Development was also in attendance.
SLC has pledged to send teams to play cricket in Japan, provide coaches and curators, whilst also undertaking to host Japanese cricket teams to play cricket in Colombo.
SLC under its President Shammi Silva has also on several occasions supported many other national sports bodies, multiple athletes and also made substantial contributions and donations to the Ministry of Sports and also to the Lady Ridgeway Children’s Hospital. This is besides spending billions of rupees in helping develop the sports infrastructure within the country by supporting clubs, schools, cricketers and several other deserving stakeholders connected to the sport.
