Royal Challengers Bangalore emerged triumphant over the Delhi Capitals, winning the second Women’s Premier League by 8 wickets. A stellar performance from RCB’s spinners Molineux and Patil impressed on the night and led to RCB’s first ever title as a franchise.
Sophie Molineux spearheaded the spin attack with a mesmerizing over, snatching three crucial wickets and setting the stage for Delhi’s car crash of a first innings. Alongside Molineux, Shreyanka Patil showcased her mettle despite a broken hand, picking up 4 wickets herself. Asha Sobhana’s fiery spell saw the trio combine for an astounding 9 wickets, restricting Delhi Capitals to a paltry total of 113 runs.
RCB’s pursuit of the modest target was characterized by a composed approach from openers Smriti Mandhana and Sophie Devine, who laid a solid foundation. Devine’s aggressive knock of 32 provided impetus to the innings, while Mandhana’s 31 anchored the chase with her trademark finesse. Ellyse Perry’s arrival at the crease further bolstered RCB’s batting lineup, as she orchestrated a calculated innings to ensure victory. With the dynamic Richa Ghosh providing valuable support, Perry powered through the needed runs, ending unbeaten on 35, sealing the title in the final over.
